Container door chains are hardware components specifically designed for the rear doors of standard containers. They are installed directly on the door lock rods on both sides of the rear door. Their primary function is to limit the opening and closing range of the door during operation, preventing the door from slamming shut suddenly due to external forces or wind, thereby protecting operators from being pinched and safeguarding components such as door lock rods and door seals from damage caused by sudden impacts. According to industry-standard configurations, a single standard container typically comes equipped with two door chains, which provide safe position limiting for both sides of the door.
Mainstream Specifications and Materials
The mainstream specification currently available on the market is 240 mm, with the 160 mm size compatible with the lock rod mounting positions of the vast majority of standard dry containers, refrigerated containers, and open-top containers; custom sizes and styles can also be manufactured to meet the needs of different container types. The main body of the product is crafted from Q235 steel and features a hot-dip galvanized finish, providing overall rust resistance and wear resistance. It is suitable for complex operating environments with high humidity and high salinity, such as ports, yards, and cross-border transportation. All steel ring joints are welded, ensuring a secure bond that is resistant to weld separation; even with long-term use, the chain will not break or deform.
In addition to the standard iron models, stainless steel door chains are also available, suitable for special container types—such as various Maersk refrigerated containers—that require a higher level of corrosion resistance.
Installation and Usage Instructions
Installation requires no complex modifications; the product can be secured directly into the pre-drilled holes for the original door lock rod. Ordinary maintenance personnel can quickly complete the replacement using basic tools. Once installed, the door can open and close within the safety limits set by the chain, meeting the need for wide-angle opening during loading and unloading while completely eliminating the safety hazard of the door slamming shut unexpectedly. It is an indispensable safety accessory in container manufacturing and the maintenance of older containers.
