Scope of application

I. Product Overview

A container nameplate serves as the container’s “official ID” and is an indispensable core identification component in the international logistics system. Manufactured in accordance with international standards such as the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) and the Customs Convention on Containers (CCC), these metal identification plates are permanently affixed to designated locations on the container doors. They carry the container’s identity information, safety parameters, and compliance credentials throughout its entire lifecycle, serving as essential documentation for the container’s participation in international multimodal transport, clearance through customs in various countries, and completion of periodic safety inspections.

Unlike ordinary equipment nameplates, the content on a container nameplate is universally recognized worldwide, and the information corresponds one-to-one with the container’s certificate. Once installed, it becomes an irreplaceable means of tracing the container’s identity and is widely used across nearly all container types, including standard dry containers, reefer containers, open-top containers, side-opening containers, and special-purpose engineering containers.

II. Core Functions and Value

International Transportation Compliance Certificate: A nameplate compliant with the CSC Convention is a fundamental prerequisite for a container to participate in international maritime and rail intermodal transport. Containers without a compliant nameplate cannot pass safety inspections by ports or shipping lines, nor can they benefit from relevant customs facilitation policies for sealed transport.

Full Lifecycle Traceability Tool: The nameplate permanently records the container’s manufacturing information, owner code, and safety parameters, enabling rapid traceability of the manufacturer and production date, and providing essential documentation for subsequent repairs, refurbishment, and ownership transfers.

Safety Operation Data Reference: Key parameters such as maximum load capacity, allowable stacking weight, and transverse rigidity test force are clearly marked on the nameplate. This guides terminal and yard personnel in properly performing stacking and lifting operations, thereby preventing safety incidents—such as container deformation or cargo damage—caused by overloading or improper stacking.

Basis for Inspection and Maintenance Management: The nameplate includes a designated area for the ACEP Continuous Inspection Program identifier, where information on periodic inspections can be recorded. This helps container owners and operations and maintenance personnel accurately monitor the container’s safety status and meet the periodic inspection requirements of maritime authorities and classification societies.

III. Mainstream Materials and Manufacturing Processes

Currently, mainstream container nameplates on the market are made of corrosion-resistant metals, designed to withstand the complex environments of ports and cross-border transportation—including high humidity, high salinity, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Common materials and manufacturing processes fall into three categories:

304 Stainless Steel Etched Type: This is the industry-standard choice. It uses 0.8 mm thick 304 stainless steel as the base material, with text and patterns permanently etched into the metal surface through a chemical etching process. The surface is treated with a sealing oil coating, making it wear- and scratch-resistant. Even with long-term outdoor use, the text will not fade or rust. Standard sizes include 0.8 × 100 × 200 mm, 0.8 × 200 × 250 mm, and other standard dimensions.

Stainless Steel Printed and Laminated Style: Logo content is printed in high definition onto the surface of the stainless steel sheet and then covered with a transparent protective film. This method offers superior color reproduction and supports multi-color logos, making it ideal for scenarios requiring the overlay of the container owner’s corporate logo or special custom designs, while providing outstanding value for money.

Aluminum Alloy Stamped Version: Lighter overall weight with excellent oxidation resistance, commonly used for specialty and lightweight containers. The text is stamped to create a raised texture, ensuring high visibility and resistance to wear.

IV. Standard Configuration

A compliant container nameplate is an integrated, comprehensive nameplate that typically combines four major categories of mandatory identification information. All text heights comply with international convention requirements; the font height for core headings is no less than 8 mm, while the font height for other reference information is no less than 5 mm:

CSC Safety Certification Section: Includes core safety parameters such as the CSC safety certification number, date of manufacture, container identification number, maximum gross mass, permitted stacking weight under 1.8G test conditions, transverse rigidity test force, and end wall strength, while also reserving space for the ACEP (Continuous Inspection Program) marking.

CCC Customs Seal Area: Features the compliance text “APPROVED FOR TRANSPORT UNDER CUSTOMS SEAL,” along with the approving country, certification body code, and approval certificate number, to meet international customs transport regulatory requirements.

Wood Fumigation Treatment Area: Also known as the TCT quarantine label, this section indicates the fumigation agent used on the wooden floor panels and the year of approval, meeting the entry regulations of countries such as Australia and New Zealand that impose quarantine requirements on wooden components.

Additional Labeling Area: Custom content such as classification society-approved marks, container owner information, container type codes, and manufacturer-specific serial numbers can be overlaid as needed.

V. Customization and Procurement Advantages

The domestic container nameplate supply chain is now highly mature, supporting full on-demand customization of all content—from container owner codes and parameter values to corporate l
